What's a Chord? - Paul McCartneys Beautiful Simplified Explanation Into Creating Music

Hey Reader👋, What's a chord? It's a question that a lot of us already know the answer to. But just getting asked it so many times has got me thinking about it myself. I know what a "chord" is, but what is a chord? And how do you go about teaching and explaining this, at its essence, in the simplest way to someone else? I'm not referring to the technical explanation of taking the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes of a scale to build a 1-3-5 chord. Rather, I'm thinking about understanding it at its root, and how to explain the essence of what it is to another person who is new to music. He did such a beautiful of explaining foundational building blocks of creating music, without barely mentioning the names of any notes! The music living inside us Another interesting thing to note is how Paul can't read or write music notation. But that didn't hold him back from being a pillar in changing the way the world relates to music to this day. And the famous producer Rick Rubin (produced music for legends such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, Adele, Neil Young, and the list goes on) says he can barely play an instrument! I think this shows how the music is living inside each of us. We all have a deep internal song just waiting to come out. We create our own walls holding us back. Thoughts like, "I can't read or write music," "I don't know how to improvise," "the tunes in my head sound silly." When the truth is, we each have our own beautiful songs inside of us, flowing deeply. Simcha P.S.
